Biurny Peguero, 27, was enjoying a night out with the girls in the summer of 2005 in New York City when her life changed forever. Peguero and her best friend Aurora Pujols were out dancing and drinking with some other girl friends and drank past their limit. At the end of the night, they say, a group of men started talking to them and one jumped in the back seat of their car.

The man was William McCaffrey, a 32-year-old contractor in the Bronx. N.Y., who'd also been out drinking with his buddies. He invited the girls to an after party. Aurora Pujols refused and got out of the car, but Peguero drove off with him.

Peguero left the car at a nearby parking lot and got in to a white van with McCaffrey and his friends. They spend an hour driving around searching in vain for an after party. When she finally returned to meet her friends back at the parking lot, she told them she was raped.

Police brought McCaffrey in for questioning. Although he denied raping or assaulting Peguero, police doubted his story. He'd been arrested numerous times for petty offenses like DUI and assault. McCaffrey was charged with rape in the first degree, convicted in October 2006 and sentenced to 20 years in jail.
