The cork boat was built out of more than 160,000 wine corks, which Pollack began collecting as a child. "It became a running joke in our family, 'another cork for the boat!' And we always saved them in this wooden bowl in the kitchen," Pollack recalled. "My parents still have that bowl, and they still save corks in that bowl, out of habit."
"I guess the first thing that struck me about John Pollack was just this incredible wide-eyed enthusiasm," said Jack Veneziano, a bartender at the famous Norah's Restaurant in D.C. who donated corks to the project.
