The New York Times' Public Editor Defends Use of "Illegal Immigrant" -- We're Not the Only Ones Who Disagree

Last week, we asked our readers why media outlets should drop the term "illegal" from their vocabulary when referring to immigrants. We received an overwhelming number of responses in which a vast majority of you said you were not ok with the term "illegal immigrant." As an alternative wording, 277 of those who responded to our informal survey chose some variation of "undocumented."

Today, The New York Times' Public Editor, Margaret Sullivan published a piece where she defended the use of the term "illegal" on the paper's articles. It didn't take long for people to complain on Twitter. We compiled some of the reactions in the Storify below:
