Barack Obama participated in inauguration ceremonies at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. on Monday to mark the beginning of his second term as president of the United States. Hundreds of thousands of people traveled from all over the country to witness the swearing-in ceremony and Obama's inaugural address. Here's a look at how people responded and celebrated.

Members of the Coeur d'Alene tribe are excited to attend their second inauguration. "This can't match the first inauguration with the history of a man of color beign elected for the first time," they said, "but we're excited because he's kept his promises to tribes. Now we hope he addresses the issue of gun control."

Tifani Hightower and Britney James are bundled up for the chilly weather, but they don't mind the cold. "It's history!" they exclaimed in unison. "It's our first time [at an inauguration] and we're so excited to see history," Hightower said.

Washington state residents Jamia McRae and Maria Orosco attended an Obam rally in Seattle, and promised themselves they would travel to the inauguration if Obama was reelected. "We said we'd come and here we are," Orosco said.
