Transcript for Cochise Deputy Sheriff Talks About Naco, Ariz. Shooting
Well I received notification probably about 2:30 this morning some -- around 13145. Three Border Patrol agents were involved in -- shooting situation. East of -- and south of highway eighty. And as a result of that shooting when Border Patrol agent was killed and other Border Patrol agent was wounded. And fortunately the third agent. Escaped unharmed. The area where this occurred. Is an area that is patrolled by an Arco station of the Border Patrol. And ironically just a couple weeks ago the -- not -- Border Patrol station. Had a grand opening and dedicated that. New station in the name of agent Brian Carey who of course died in the line of duty I believe in 2000 and due to the time of day and the location that this occurred I believe you know we suspect that this is probably some type of narcotics traffic. Event but at this time that would be speculative. Well it's been dangerous over a long time on the border here and this is just another example. That shows whether you're an armed Border Patrol agent doing your duty. Or if you were simple rancher out tending to your ranch that if you're -- forever your girl. And coach is counting has been a smuggling -- or. For many many years. That seems to be. Unabated in modern times.
