Public records show Martin's past isn't the only thing he has to explain to his "longtime friend," Fred Thompson.
A review of public records shows that the IRS and the state of Tennessee have filed liens for tax debts against Martin and his former businesses.
Martin could not be reached for comment, and messages to his lawer, John P. Konvalinka, were not returned.
