Worthington's mother, Mary Evelyn Worthington, had been a Texas beauty queen, and, according to her son, her secret came out when the man he thought was his father, Jack Worthington Sr., was stricken with a genetically inherited fatal disease.
Worthington was concerned his family could be plagued by the same fatal disease and told his mother he thought everyone should be tested.
"'Jack, that's not, that's not important,'" Worthington says his mother answered him. "'Your father isn't Jack Worthington; it's John Kennedy.'"
