The case against the Emperor's Club and its operators was actually an off-shoot of the initial investigation into what authorities saw as a series of suspicious financial transactions involving Spitzer.
"The way this case comes and how quickly it's exploded, so to speak, I would get a sense that it wasn't just looking at an Internet, Web-based prostitution business, and I would think that they had to be a little bit more focused on what they were looking at," Daniel Parker, an attorney for one of the ring's operators charged in the complaint, said.
