An undercover investigator for the animal rights group Mercy for Animals worked at different egg farms run by Sparboe Farms in Colorado, Iowa and Minnesota.

Scott's video also shows workers cleaning out dead birds. At one point, Scott says, he sat in on a company-wide conference call that warned of possible infiltration by animal rights activists, who might be trying to get pictures inside the facilities.
The birds had apparently been left for days or weeks to rot in the cages while other hens laid their eggs.

After ABC News confronted McDonald's with the results of its investigation and the Mercy for Animals video, McDonald's issued a statement saying it would no longer get its eggs from Sparboe.
Federal investigators found that eggs from another Iowa egg producer, Wright County Egg, were a principal source of a 2010 salmonella outbreak that made more than 1,900 people sick.
