Joseph "Big Joey" Massino, the head of the Bonanno crime family for 14 years, testified in court against mobster "Vinny Gorgeous" Basciano April 12, 2011. This marked the first time Massino testified at a public trial since becoming a government cooperator in 2005. Massino was convicted of seven murders in 2004, for which he is serving life in prison. He was involved in the famed Donnie Brasco case, which became a film starring Johnny Depp and Al Pacino.
Basciano faces the death penalty if convicted of ordering the murder of mob associate Randolph Pizzolo.
