In 1927, GM asked Harley Earl, who customized cars for Hollywood celebs, to design what became the Buick LaSalle. It was the first time a carmaker used a professional designer to create a car. The LaSalle had a V-8 engine and a top speed of 95 mph, and cost up to $2,685.
