In the 1990s, GM took its first crack at an electric car called the EV1. Instead of gasoline, the car ran on batteries that could be charged overnight. In Arizona and Cailfornia, the cars were offered for lease through Saturn dealerships. The leasing program for the cars ended in 2003. (Courtesy GM )
