Jan. 26, 2005 — -- OK, admit it. At least once you told your teacher that you didn't have your homework because your dog ate it. Heck, I said it and we didn't even have a dog.

You'd expect that by the time we are working at a job that the quality of our excuses would expand commensurate with our age. I think not. If you are like me you've heard ridiculous reasons given for not meeting a deadline.

Dare I say, you've even told a whopper or two in your day. So let's hear them, the good, the bad and the ugly of the excuses you've heard, and given, at work.

E-mail a description of the worst excuse that you've ever heard or told to bob@workingwounded.com. We'll be back next time with our best responses and with the results of our online ballot about how often you've told a whopper at work.

Workplace Best & Worst is a Wednesday feature at ABCNews.com. Each week we'll ask a question -- What is the worst workplace prank? What is the best advice? Who was your worst boss? And then in week two we'll run the best responses.
