Workplace Best and Worst: Company Policy

Feb. 23, 2005 — -- There are two kinds of people in the world, people who go along with the rules and people who resist them (it's a fairly safe bet which group I fall into).

As I've gotten older, I've realized that even rules that didn't make sense to me can often have a compelling reason to exist. Let's face it, when you have thousands of employees, offering each one their own personal set of rules can be problematic. OK, that is the "pro" part of the argument here.

At the same time, every organization that I've ever seen has a series of rules that can only make you wonder if there is an entire team of people who only exist to drive everyone else crazy. So this week's question: What is the dumbest, worst and/or most annoying company policy you've ever seen?

E-mail a description of the worst company policy you've ever labored under or heard about to bob@workingwounded.com. We'll be back next time with our worst company policies.

Workplace Best & Worst is a Wednesday feature at ABCNews.com. Each week we'll ask a question -- What is the worst workplace prank? What is the best advice? Who was your worst boss? And then in week two we'll run the best responses.
