U.S. Economy Adds 162,000 Jobs

The U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs last month while the unemployment rate remained steady at 9.7 percent, the U.S. Labor Department reported this morning, adding evidence that the recovery from the tailspin set off by the economic crisis is well under way. The payroll increase, the largest in three years, was slightly below the 190,000 new jobs economists were expecting.
