    A 50-acre estate in Greenwich, Conn. is believed to be the most expensive home listed in the U.S. with a price tag of $190 million. The 12-bedroom home was first listed in May 2013 with agent David Ogilvy of David Ogilvy & Associates. The waterfront estate may battle with a property in Woodside Calif. that sold for $117.5 million in Nov. 2012, the most expensive recorded sale in the country.

    The home carries over $120 million in debt, the New York Times reported. "Enjoyed by the noted Lauder Greenway family from their purchase of it in 1904, this extraordinary Great Estate has no peers in Greenwich, as the second to last one was developed in 1954," the listing states. It is called Copper Beech Farm after the large copper beech trees on the property.

    The number of listings of homes worth $100 million or more is on the rise. The home's current owner is timber tycoon John Rudey, who is selling because his children have grown, the Wall Street Journal reports. Rudey, who knew the Lauder Greenway family, bought the property 31 years ago. George Lauder helped Andrew Carnegie establish what would later become U.S. Steel.
