A rare portrait of Henri Matisse's wife failed to sell at a Christie's auction on May 8. Andre Derain's "Madame Matisse au kimono" oil on canvas, painted in Collioure, Summer 1905, had an estimated value of $15-20 million. The piece came from a private European collection and "represents a pivotal moment of artistic collaboration between André Derain and Henri Matisse," Christie's said. (Christie's Images, Ltd. 2013 )
