D U B L I N, Feb. 5 -- Irish state airline Aer Lingus will ground its fleet on Wednesday due to a planned one-daystrike by cabin crew, the company said today.

"It is very regrettable that our customers face disruptionon Wednesday but we're left with no alternative but to cancelour schedule of operations for that day," the company said in astatement.

Pay talks between Aer Lingus and a union representing cabincrew staff broke down last Friday and no further talks had beenscheduled ahead of Wednesday's action, officials said.

Workers are keen to pin down wage deals and improve workingconditions ahead of the airline's likely privatization thisyear, which is expected to value the carrier at up to $778 million.
