In the hot seat again facing tough questions from senators today hi everyone I'm Michelle Franzen in New York with -- ABC news digital special report. Senators not letting up in their questioning now of -- GM's CEO Mary Barra over the ignition flaw that killed thirteen people and caused 31 crashes. Members of congress indignant at bars responses over the recall and the culture. At GM ABC's Karen Travers has been following the latest joins us now with more from Washington Caron good afternoon Michelle the questions -- familiar Mary -- was on the hot seat yesterday before a house committee today it was the Senate's turn to take a shot at her. In the senators kept up their questions really trying to push -- you explain what took GM's so long to address that ignition switch problem. -- did not have answers and Michelle several lawmakers could barely hide their frustrations. Round two on Capitol Hill for General Motors CEO Mary Barra today's GM -- do the right. This begins with my sincere apologies to everyone who's been affected by this -- -- Today it was senators demanding answers why -- take so long for GM to address a major safety defects the American public or failed by -- corporate culture. And Michelle according to documents released yesterday by General Motors the cost to fix the ignition switch problem. Would have been just 57. Cents per car and now Karen as -- the hearings continue there's also. An internal investigation GM's CEO says that they have launched. Has anyone been fired at GM because of this scandal that spans nearly a decade Mary -- was -- on that today Michelle and she said no so far nobody has lost their job over this problem and potential cover up of the problems she said because that internal investigation that is still ongoing they want to let that process play out before they make any decisions about who will be held responsible within the company and -- as we've watched these hearings unfold the second day seemed even tougher for Mary -- this time senators. Incredulous of her lack of answers and focusing in on whether GM and since she -- referred to them as today's GM now. Had made enough changes and accusing them of putting cost ahead of safety is that -- and Michelle she also said yesterday you know issue was it going back to the point that she wasn't in -- -- -- she's only been the CEO of GM since January just a couple of months in that position. But she has worked at the company for three decades -- lawmakers today were certainly pushing more on that -- say. Yes we heard you say yesterday you were at home. But you're a part of this you were part of the leadership of the company in recent years how did you not know about this and merry -- -- certainly dodged a lot of those questions and lawmakers were very frustrated but. -- can't imagine they weren't expecting any more answers today than what she -- yesterday and we'll keep an eye on this ABC's Karen Travers in Washington thank you.
