NJ Gov Seeks to Boost Hiring of Jobless

Employers to be offered incentive to hire jobless New Jerseyans

Businesses will be offered a $2,400 incentive to hire New Jerseyans who have exhausted their unemployment benefits.

Gov. Jon Corzine is expected to announce the federally funded program in New Brunswick Tuesday.

An employee must work for the company for six months for the business to qualify.

Corzine announced a similar job-incentive program last year that offered businesses $3,000 for each position created and maintained for one year. The program reached its $50 million funding limit within two months.

Jobless benefits have run out for more than 45,000 in New Jersey.
