AGE — 62. Born April 9, 1947 in Meridian, Miss.

EDUCATION — Georgia State University, Bachelor's degree in finance.

CAREER — Joined North Carolina National Bank, a predecessor to NationsBank and later and Bank of America, in 1969 as a credit analyst in Charlotte, North Carolina. After holding various roles in the company, Lewis was named CEO of Bank of America in April 2001. Lewis had also served as Chairman of BofA but shareholders voted to separate the CEO and Chairman titles at the company's 2009 board meeting. Announced Sept. 30 he would retire at the end of 2009.

FAMILY — Married, two children.
