Regional carrier American Eagle says October traffic

American Eagle, the regional sister carrier to American Airlines, said Wednesday that October traffic rose 6 percent in contrast to a decline at American.

Eagle said paying passengers flew 680.1 million miles last month, up from 641.8 million miles in October 2008. American's traffic fell 2.6 percent.

Eagle and Executive Airlines increased capacity 0.7 percent, to 927.4 million available seat miles, last month.

The average plane was 73.3 percent full, compared with 69.7 percent full a year earlier.

Through the first 10 months of 2009, traffic at Eagle and Executive fell 5 percent while capacity was reduced 6.6 percent compared with the same period last year.

Eagle and American are units of AMR Corp., based in Fort Worth.
