A look at some checking account terms at nation's biggest banks

Citibank says it will start charging a $7.50 monthly fee on Access and EZ checking accounts unless customers maintain a $1,500 balance. A look at some of the policies of the nation's biggest banks on basic checking accounts.

Specific terms may vary by region.

Bank: Monthly Service Fee

BANK OF AMERICA: $8.95

The fee can be waived if you meet one of these conditions:

—Set up direct deposit

—Open the account online

—Maintain a minimum balance of $1,500

CHASE: $6

The fee can be waived if you meet one of these conditions:

—Set up direct deposit

—Make at least five debit card purchases a month

CITIBANK: $7.50

The fee can be waived if you:

—Maintain a minimum balance of $1,500

PNC FINANCIAL: $0

—A $25 minimum is required to open an account.

WELLS FARGO: $8

The fee can be waived if you meet one of these conditions:

—Set up direct deposit

—Set up automatic transfers to a Wells Fargo savings account

—Set up automatic bill pay to a Wells Fargo credit line

—Maintain a $1,000 minimum balance
