Nov. 6, 2006 — -- While this year marks the first time Charles Gibson, Katie Couric and Brian Williams will monitor prime time vote Election Day returns as network anchors, one of the veterans of TV news is turning to comedy.

Dan Rather will be a guest on Comedy Central's election night special coverage. For the event, "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" will be joining forces at 8 p.m. E.T. for its "Midterm Midtacular."

The former CBS news anchor, who now serves as global correspondent on Dallas owner Mavericks Mark Cuban's HDNet, will give his analysis in an interview with "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart.

The Daily Show's previous election coverage -- "Indecision 2000" and "Indecision 2004" -- has earned Emmy and Peabody awards.

Stewart has long described himself as a "fake newsman," and unlike conventional election night coverage, Comedy Central is telling audiences that its coverage "is unburdened by objectivity or even accuracy."
