April 15, 2014 — -- Alexa Ray Joel is feeling much better after her collapse over the weekend during one of her performances at Cafe Carlyle in New York City.

"I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to support me,” Joel wrote in a statement to the New York Times. "I was excited and determined to fulfill my final performance and I really wanted to end my run with a bang, but this was not what I had in mind and hope I have the opportunity to make it up to the wonderful audience very soon."

The singer was two songs into her set on Saturday when she collapsed. She was taken to the emergency room at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Joel's rep told the newspaper that she collapsed because of a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate, and reduced blood flow to the brain. The condition is called vasovagal syncope.

Joel, 28, the daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, made headlines earlier in the month when she debuted a sexy new look at the Carlyle. Shortly after, she spoke out to slam plastic surgery rumors.

"The continuously-circulating rumors that I have had extensive 'face-work' and undergone breast-augmentation surgery is simply and entirely 100 percent false," she wrote on Instagram.
