Angelina Jolie Talks Highs and Lows of Marriage to Brad Pitt

— -- Don't read too much into the fact that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's new movie, "By the Sea," is about a couple struggling with their marriage.

“Brad and I have our issues, but if the characters were even remotely close to our problems we couldn’t have made the film," Jolie, who directed the drama, told Britain's The Telegraph.

"To be clear: we have fights and problems like any other couple," she continued. "We have days when we drive each other absolutely mad and want space, but the problems in the movie aren’t our specific problems."

The couple found that working on "By the Sea" was a different experience than when they co-starred in 2005's "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

“When we first worked together it was very different because we didn’t really know each other and we were young and, it was really a fun film, so we thought, maybe 'By the Sea' was going to be that kind of fun, but realized very quickly that it wasn’t,” Jolie said. “Then we joked that this is what happens after 10 years of marriage.”

"By the Sea" opens in limited release this week.
