‘Captain America: Civil War’ to Feature ‘Darker Version’ of Tony Stark, Co-Director Says
The film pits Captain America and Iron Man against each other.
— -- “Captain America: Civil War” is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, and actor Robert Downey Jr. says fans will be surprised by some of the choices that the characters make.
“It’s not going to be entirely predictable,” Downey Jr., who plays Tony Stark/Iron Man, told ABC News' Nick Watt when Watt visited the hot, humid set of the movie just outside of Atlanta recently.
The film's plot pits Captain America and Iron Man – both beloved superheroes -- against each other.
The original comic books were the basis for the film, but the production will diverge from the source material.
“I think that Marvel likes to keep the fans excited, guessing, curious, all that stuff!” said Scarlett Johansson, who plays the Black Widow.
When Watt asked Elizabeth Olsen -– who plays the Scarlet Witch -– whether her character is good or bad, she replied: “I think we’re all good and bad in this film ... because it’s a civil war.”
Joe Russo, the film’s co-director, gave some insight into Stark, saying: “Downey is playing ... a much darker version of Tony Stark than he’s ever played, and he’s crushing it.”
The film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe features a star-studded cast, including Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Emily VanCamp and Marvel newcomer Chadwick Boseman as the character Black Panther.
"Captain America: Civil War" will be released on May 6, 2016 by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
