Oct. 12, 2011— -- intro: The professional dancers paired with the celebrities on ""Dancing With the Stars" may be helping the stars to shine on the dance floor, but it's the people they go home to who keep them motivated.

Take Nancy Grace. Her banker husband David Linch rarely accompanies her to red carpet events but can often be seen in the "Dancing" audience.

He offers another side to the tenacious former prosecutor-turned-talk show host.

Grace surprised the world when she secretly married Linch, whom she met at Mercer College in the late 1970s, in a small, private ceremony attended only by their families in Macon, Ga. She revealed her new marriage at the same time she announced that she was pregnant with twins.

"We've been in touch all these years, and a lot of time we were separated by geography and time," she told the New York Post at the time. "It was a spur-of-the-moment decision to get married. I told my family only two days before [the wedding]."

"I never thought it would happen like this. I thought 'mother' and 'wife' was just not part of God's plan for me," the HLN talk show host added.

Some seek a consolation prize from their off-screen partners too. After getting kicked out of the competition Tuesday night, singer Chynna Phillips told Jimmy Kimmel that it was her husband William Baldwin's idea for her to join "DWTS," and now, he'll have to pay.

"I said if you can get me on 'Dancing,' then I'll do it," she said. "If I win you get a vasectomy. He said if you get into finals, then I can't vote for you anymore …. So baby number four might be on the way!"

"Dancing With the Stars" caps a turnaround year for Lake, who said on the show that she was "stuck" before 2011.

The former actress and talk show host went through a difficult divorce, was a single mother of two and, on top of it all, lost her house in fire.

In August, Lake announced she was engaged to jewelry designer Christian Evans, her beau of one year.

"I'm totally in love," Lake, 42, told People. "We're having so much fun. I'm happier than I've ever been."

David Arquette is also having a turnaround year, though it began with him in rehab.

After his split from actress Courteney Cox, Arquette checked into rehab for depression and alcohol problems.

Now he's sober and in a new relationship with Christina McLarty, the ex-wife of "Girls Gone Wild" creator Joe Francis.

"She's adorable," the actor told Howard Stern last month, adding that they met at a "boat party" and "try to see each other as much as possible."

"I'm not one to run around with different girls," he said. "I like someone that makes me feel good and that I can make feel good."

Arquette's relationship also seems to be good with his ex. Cox sits in the audience with their daughter Coco to watch Arquette perform.

Chaz Bono's fiance Jennifer Elia has stuck by him through his transition from female to male.

The pair were engaged two years ago but put the wedding on hold while Bono underwent his gender transition, a process that tested the strength of their relationship, the couple told Piers Morgan in May.

Now that it is done, Elia told Morgan, "To my surprise, I was thrilled," adding that she finds Bono "more attractive as a man."

It's been a tough road for Chynna Phillips and Billy Baldwin as well.

Last year, the Wilson Phillips singer filed a petition for divorce from her actor husband, before rescinding it.

Phillips' change of heart coincided with her return to rehab, which followed her sister Mackenzie Phillips' bombshell announcement that she had been in a years long affair with their father.

"Every married couple has its ups and downs, but they're committed to the relationship," Phillips' publicist, Lizzie Grubman, told E! News last March.

Phillips and Baldwin have been married 16 years and have three children.
