— -- Gwen Stefani continues to stay mum about what caused the breakdown of her 13-year marriage to rocker Gavin Rossdale.

Still, the singer clarified to Time magazine why she's staying silent.

"I don't feel like I have anything to be ashamed of," she said. "I've done nothing wrong. I don't feel like I have anything to protect about myself. But when you're a mother, you have to have some boundaries."

Stefani, 46, has three sons with Rossdale.

She's hinted previously to The New York Times that the real reason why the two split would leave people "in shock." Stefani added, "It's a really good, juicy story."

The singer said after her split with Rossdale, 50, last August, she unexpectedly returned to her solo career. Stefani eventually recorded her third solo album, "This Is What the Truth Feels Like," out now.

"It was really a life-saver record for me," Stefani said of her new music. "It wasn't until I had to go through the worst tragedy that it really opened up a channel for me to be like, 'God gave me a gift. I'm going to use it now. Because if I don't, I’m going to die.'"

In fact, the singer revealed she prayed every day while driving to the recording studio.

"I've really been trying to exercise my spiritual side in the last year," Stefani explained. "I scraped myself off the floor and went into the studio and tried to somehow be alive again."
