Matthew McConaughey was in Italy for work, while his mother was traveling around Europe -- but they still made time for each other.

On Wednesday night, the newly-minted Oscar winner and his mother capped off a day of sight-seeing by having dinner at Antica Pesa in Rome.

Executive chef and co-owner Simone Panella prepared a multi-course meal meant to make the two feel at home. They started off with a selection of appetizers including crudo e bufala, tuna carpaccio and some vegetables. For the main course, they enjoyed cacio e pepe and amatriciana pastas, followed by beef cheek braised with Sangiovese wine reduction, orange foam and seared radicchio.
Dessert was equally decadent -- puff pastry with dark chocolate, passion fruit and white chocolate sauce; jasmine green tea creme brûlée and beer tiramisu. They washed it down with red wine.
And it wasn't just Italian food the mother/son duo were enjoying -- it was the European dining customs too! They arrived at 10:30 p.m. and stayed until 1 a.m. -- even though they had an early flight back to L.A.
