Kathy Griffin Once Thought Whitney Houston Was Going to Hit Her

April 9, 2014 -- Kathy Griffin is used to feuding with celebrities.

However, nobody has ever scared her like Whitney Houston did.

"I never mind when a celebrity's mad at me. I have to say, that's always kind of fun," Griffin told Howard Stern. "[But] the late, great Whitney Houston... got in my face, waved her finger, scared the holy eff out of me."

According to Griffin, Houston, who died in 2012 at the age of 48, once got upset after the comedian made a joke about her at the Billboard Music Awards. Griffin could not remember the joke, nor did she specify the year. However, she hosted the show from 1998-2000.

"She got me backstage and she really scared the bejesus out of me," she said. "[She] said, 'Don't you ever talk about me. Don't you talk about me. Don't you ever talk about me.'"

Griffin added that there was nobody else around to witness the confrontation, except for Houston's bodyguard.

"I thought, 'Well, he's not gonna help,'" she joked. "[But] Whitney was one of a kind."
