Katie Couric's Mother and 'Best Friend' Elinor Dies

— -- Katie Couric had to say goodbye to her "best friend" Thursday.

"My heart is broken. I lost my mom and best friend. We love you and miss you, Mom/Granny," she tweeted along with a sweet picture of her late mother, Elinor H. Couric.

She also posted on Facebook that her mother lived from 1923 to 2014 and died at the age of 91.

"She loved fiercely and was fiercely loved," she added.

Fans immediately shared their condolences such as "Words really can't describe the pain and heartache that you are going through."

Couric, 57, took care of her mother after she lost her father to Parkinson's in 2011.

The veteran news anchor just remarried herself, when she tied the knot to John Molner in June.
