— -- A little less than one month after the tragic attacks in Paris, Madonna paid tribute to the victims, and called for "peace in the world" with a surprise concert in Paris.

The "Like a Virgin" singer was performing in Paris on Wednesday as a stop on her Rebel Heart Tour, and after finishing her show at the AccorHotels Arena, the singer announced on Twitter that she would be giving a surprise "aftershow" at the Place de la République.

"Im singing some songs in place de la republique," Madonna wrote. "Meet me there now #Paris . #rightnow #aftershow?? #rebelheartour."

At the Paris square, Madonna performed acoustic versions of multiple songs, including her 1989 hit single "Like a Prayer," and a touching cover of the Beatles' "Imagine."

The 57-year-old singer hugged her son David as she performed in front of the iconic statue at Place de la République, which has been transformed into an informal memorial for the victims of the Paris attacks.

After the concert, Madonna posted a photo of her and David from the impromptu concert on her Twitter account, reflecting on the powerful night.

"Singing For Peace at Place de La Republique. Proud Mama," the singer wrote.
