What Mariah Carey Told Her Kids About Her Engagement to James Packer

— -- Mariah Carey is revealing how she announced her recent engagement to James Packer to her children.

Packer proposed to Carey last month, and according to E! News, Carey is trying to figure out the best way to explain what this means to her two kids, twins Monroe and Moroccan, 4.

"I haven't talked to them about it completely because they are so young so they don't really understand things yet," Carey said. "So [I] have to go slowly and explain things and always make sure they know that this is only going to be good for them."

Carey, 45, and Packer, 48, have been dating for nearly a year. The Australian businessman proposed to the singer with a 35-carat diamond ring that Carey admitted is "so heavy [she] can't lift [her] arm up."

This will be the third marriage for both Carey and Packer. Carey's two children are from her previous marriage to comedian Nick Cannon. Packer has three children from a previous relationship: Indigo Packer, 7; Jackson Packer, 5; and, Emmanuelle Packer, 3.
