'Master of None' star Lena Waithe makes history with Emmy win
Lena Waithe and Aziz Ansari won for writing for a "Master of None" episode.
— -- Lena Waithe, who won the Emmy for best writing for a comedy series along with "Master of None" star Aziz Ansari, was the first black woman to receive a nomination in the category and the first to win.
Backstage at the awards show, the actress said that her historic win "means a lot," especially because it could lead to opportunities for other women of color.
"I hope that it'll open people's eyes to give women of color a seat at the table," she said.
Waithe and Ansari co-wrote and starred in the "Thanksgiving" episode of the Netflix series, which was based on Waithe's life. The episode follows Waithe's character's relationship with her family, told over many years of Thanksgivings together, before and after she comes out to her family.

Waithe said in her acceptance speech, "My LGBTQI family ... the things that make us different, those are our superpowers."
"Every day when you go out that door," she said, "put on your imaginary cape and go out there and conquer the world."
