— -- Misty Copeland is gearing up for American Ballet Theatre's fall opening tonight at Lincoln Center.

The trailblazing principal dancer stopped by "Good Morning America" today to chat about her upcoming performances.

"It's a 2-week season, it's super quick, but it's exciting to be performing in New York City...it's nice to be here, and home," Copeland said.

Last year, Copeland became the first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre's history.

In September, Copeland appeared in photographer Gregg Delman's book titled, "Misty Copeland."

Later, Copeland took to Instagram to address rumors of having her body photoshopped in the images.

"I'm so proud of this wonderful book that @greggdelmanphoto made," she wrote. "The positive body image that is shown throughout is a healthy one and what I stand for. The image on the left was photoshopped to smooth out my leotard. No altering was done to my body. I'm happy and proud of my body and would never participate in changing it."

Copeland also responded with side-by-side photos to prove there was no photoshopping.

"[W]hen you're on social media the youth are seeing such horrible imagery of what they think they should have to look like and so, it was really important for me, with this book ... [has] photographs of my body and all that it takes to become a ballerina and the art in what goes into making this body," Copeland said.

She added: "So, I celebrate that. I've never hid from what I look like so when the book editors, they edited out some wrinkling in my leotard and I got a lot of flack that I cut away at my waist, and did all of these things to alter my body and I couldn't sit back."

Copeland is also guest starring in the new PBS animated preschool series, "PEG + CAT."

"I was a little shocked when I got into the studio and realized I had to sing," she said. "I was like, 'Not this again!' When I did 'On the Town,' it was terrifying--the Broadway show. And so, I got to sing in this episode."

Copeland's episode of "PEG plus CAT" premieres on PBS Kids today.
