— -- It may be hard to believe it’s the 20th anniversary of the publication of Nicholas Sparks’ "The Notebook," but the New York Times bestselling author’s fans don’t have long to wait until the release of his highly-anticipated new book.

Sparks’ latest novel, “Two By Two,” about a newly single dad and his young daughter, is available in stores and online tomorrow. It's his 20th book.

“It was really a two-fold inspiration. And so, it doesn’t start with a divorce. It starts with this guy and life happens. He quits his job and he eventually becomes Mr. Mom,” the author said on “Good Morning America” today. “And he’s got this great 5-year-old daughter, but he realizes he’s kind of clueless. He was the kind of guy that until this point, he was a little nervous if he had to spend a whole day alone: 'What do you do with your kid?'"

"So it’s his growth as a father. But the big theme of the book is ‘Two By Two,’ because as you’re going through these challenges of life it’s best to have someone by your side, whether it’s a sister or a parent or a friend or a lover, or your child,” he added.

Sparks is recently divorced himself and when asked if the new people he dates expect him to live up to the romantic characters he writes about, he replied, “I suppose we’ll find out.”

“You know I’ve been a little busy in the past year. I just had to finish the novel,” he explained. “I haven’t been dating all that much. I have five kids, and they’re my priority and my work and things like that.”

And as far as Sparks’ idea for a perfect date night, his answer was simple.

“If you’re going to go on a date, make sure that you do something that is going to be fun no matter what,” he said. “That way if the date doesn’t work out, you still have fun. Go to a museum, go to a game, go to a show, some opening or something like that. That way you know no matter what you’re going to have a great time.”
