Oscar-winning director Sydney Pollack died Monday at age 73 in his Los Angeles home. The Hollywood veteran was diagnosed with cancer nine months ago, according to Pollack's publicist.

As a producer, director and occasional actor, Pollack worked with Hollywood's finest talent in more than 40 films -- he directed Dustin Hoffman in 1982's "Tootsie," in which he took a small but memorable part as his agent, and Robert Redford and Meryl Streep in "Out of Africa," which won seven Oscars.
