James Doohan played Montgomery Scott, the Scottish chief engineer on the Enterprise. He is tied to the infamous Trekkie phrase "Beam me up Scotty." After the show, Doohan made a number of small appearances onscreen, including in the film "National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1," and the TV comedy "Homeboys in Outer Space." In 2004, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. In 2005, Doohan died of pneumonia at age 85. (Getty Images/Reuters)
