— -- In his debut album, "Terminal Nostalgia," Reuben Hollebon looks back on the past, while also expressing the importance of living in the moment. He takes an acoustic approach to produce an intimate soundtrack that stops at different periods in his life.

“There were a few reflections on other people’s stories but it was pretty much entirely built out of stories that have happened to me or very close to me,” he said.

With songs like “We’re Gonna Miss Us (When We’re Gone)” and “Haystacks,” the largely self-produced album revolves around his personal experiences but speak to the universal themes of love, grief and hope. He hopes the soundtrack will open up a discussion with his fans.

“It’s like entering into a conversation with a thousand people at once.”

The English musician wasn’t always a songwriter. Leading up to his album, he was a recording engineer who helped produce music for artists like Courtney Barnett, Imogen Heap and the London Symphony Orchestra. Hollebon says it gave him an extraordinary opportunity to observe their work firsthand, which laid a foundation for his own album.

“You see a lot of different colors of music, the way they go about it and a lot of different methods. Those things serve as inspiration…and the rest of it comes from your own inspiration, your own experience or your own particular love of art or whatever it is.”

Hollebon's album, Terminal Nostalgia by Bright Antenna Records will be released Friday, May 20.
