— -- Robin Thicke has been open about how difficult his split from Paula Patton has been.

According to his parents, things haven't gotten much better for him.

"He's suffering," Thicke's mother Tanya told E! News. "He's in pain. There's no doubt that they love each other. She loves him and he loves her."

Thicke's father, Alan, added that nobody is sure what the future holds for the estranged couple -- including Thicke and Patton themselves.

But one person who has been unaffected by the split is their son, Julian, 4.

"Remember, his parents are always traveling and working," Tanya said. "I don't think Julian is suffering in that sense because that's how he knows mommy and daddy—on the road. He kind of went back and forth anyway. That really hasn't changed for him."

Either way, Alan, who's starring in a new reality TV show, "Unsually Thicke," said that his son has done all he can do.

"Robin's put it all out there," he said. "He's put it hard on the table and poured it into his music."
