— -- "How to Get Away With Murder" star Viola Davis is not only an accomplished actress and artist, she's a great mother to her 4-year-old daughter Genesis.

In her acceptance speech Sunday night as Screen Actors Guild Awards after winning for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, Davis, 49, said, "When I tell my daughter stories at night, inevitably a few things happen," as seen in the video on TNT.

"Number one, I use my imagination. I always start with life and then I build from there. And the other thing that happens is she always says, 'Mommy, can you put me in the story?'" she continued. "And it starts from the top up."

She continued to thank the ABC show's creator and innovator Shonda Rhimes, among others that make her show possible, especially "for thinking that a sexualized, messy, mysterious woman could be a 49-year-old dark-skinned African-American woman who looks like me."

"And thank you to all the people who love me exactly how God made me," she added.

She closed by thanking her husband Julius, her daughter Genesis and her mother.
