The stars who made their names in the '80s, are a fitting addition.

— -- The smash hit Netflix series "Stranger Things" is about paying tribute to the sci-fi and horror shows of the 1980s. So the casting of some stars of the era makes total sense.

A rep for Netflix confirmed to ABC News that Sean Astin, one of the stars of the classic 1985 movie "The Goonies" — which is somewhat similar to "Stranger Things" in plot — has joined the cast as Bob Newby. The character is a former nerd and high school classmate of Will Byers' mom, Joyce Byers, and Sheriff Hopper and is now the manager of the local RadioShack.

Meanwhile, Paul Reiser, who memorably played a villain in the 1986 sci-fi horror movie "Aliens," has also come on board. He'll play Dr. Owens, who works for the Department of Energy and is hired to "contain" the bizarre goings-on of the past year, which saw Will being kidnapped by a terrifying alien from another dimension, aka the Upside Down.

The third casting announcement is about Linnea Berthelson, who will play an emotionally damaged young woman named Roman. She is somehow connected to the crazy events of last year.

Season 2 of the series will debut next year.
