What happens to lovers while they are sleeping? Each picture in "The Sleep of the Beloved" is a long-time exposure. The exposure time is 6 hours, from midnight until 6 am. The room with the bed is in the photographer's studio apartment and at no time during the exposure is Schneggenburger inside the room. He just lights the candles and sets up the stage.
