June 14, 2001 — -- It's Father's Day. You need a film. That's a no-brainer "Father of the Bride."

But which "Father of the Bride?" The one where Steve Martin is the father? Or the one where Liz Taylor is the bride?

Answer: Why not a double feature? In the original, the wedding is a little cheaper. In the remake, it's a whole lot funnier.

"Paper Moon" features a real father and daughter (Ryan and Tatum O'Neal). So does "On Golden Pond" (Henry and Jane Fonda). And it's one of the best movies ever.

And has there ever been a better movie dad than Gregory Peck in "To Kill A Mockingbird?"

For fathers and sons, "Kramer vs. Kramer" is a natural. But here is one you might not have thought of: "Liar, Liar." Jim Carrey plays a dad whose son makes a wish that has dad telling nothing but the truth.

Here's one for younger kids: "Fly Away Home." It's a true story, too.

Competitive with Pop? I bet you're not as competitive as Indiana Jones and his dad in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."

"The Empire Strikes Back" is not only great fun to watch, but no matter how troubled your relationship is with your dad, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will make yours look like "Leave It To Beaver."

One very gutsy movie about a troubled father-son relationship, "Nothing in Common," features Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason. Those two can't get along until they must.

In "Mrs. Doubtfire," Robin Williams shows us how far a dad will go to be with his family. It's a terrific Father's Day choice if you want to hear each other laugh.

Finally, three to watch together only if you're not ashamed to see each other cry:"Frequency," "Life Is Beautiful," and my own favorite, "Field of Dreams." Show it and he will come.
