Dan Quayle: Osbournes Show Family Values

May 9 -- Former Vice President Dan Quayle didn't like Murphy Brown, but he says Ozzy Osbourne is a different story.

Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington, Quayle said The Osbournes, MTV's hit show, presents good family values. He said that when you look past their profanity, Ozzy and Co. have a lot to offer.

"You have to get beyond the sort of dysfunctional aspect," Quayle said. "I think there are some very good lessons there that are being transmitted."Quayle made headlines in 1992 when he criticized Murphy Brown, accusing the the sitcom of glamorizing irresponsible behavior when the title character had a baby out of wedlock.

Quayle said that despite their rock 'n' roll lifestyle, Ozzy an aging rocker who became infamous for biting the head off a live bat onstage and his wife encourage their children not to abuse drugsand alcohol.

On other TV programs, Quayle said, 90 percent of the sex takesplace outside of marriage.

The former vice president said many Hollywood stars live morallives off-screen, despite their antics on-screen. He suggested their motto should be, "Do as I do, not as I act."

"In a weird way, Ozzy is a great anti-drug promotion," Quayle said. "Look at him and how fried his brains are from taking drugs all those years and everyone will say, 'I don't want to be like that."'
