April 30 -- The rock band Creed canceled remaining dates on its North American tour after lead singer Scott Stapp was injured in an auto accident.

According to a statement released by the band's record label Wind-Up Records, the singer's car was struck by another vehicle and "his body absorbed a 60-mile-an-hour impact."

There's no word on the extent of Stapp's injuries or his condition, but the band's label says Stapp, "has been advised by medical professionals to make this regrettable, but necessary decision as he recuperates."

The second leg of Creed's North American tour was to kick off Monday night in Fargo, N.D., and then continue through the end of May. Monday's show, and all shows through May 31 are now off, and no make-up dates have been announced.

The band is promising to return to the road in mid-summer, however. Fans holding tickets can get a refund at the point of purchase.
