Will & Grace's Hayes a Hero

August 16 -- We can't picture Will & Grace drama queen Jack pulling over to help an injured man by the side of the road, but his real-life counterpart, actor Sean Hayes, is being hailed as a good Samaritan after coming to the aid of a wounded Los Angeles man Friday night.

The Emmy-winning actor was driving through the mid-Wilshire neighborhood of Los Angeles at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, when he saw a man lying on the ground.

"He called 911 on his cellular phone, alerted neighbors, took off his shirt, and pressed it against the wound to stop [the] bleeding," the actor's publicist, Michelle Bega, said. Hayes waited for paramedics and police, told investigators what happened, and left, according to Bega.

But the 31-year-old actor didn't want to make a fuss over his gallantry, and word was just beginning to spread around Hollywood by Wednesday.

"We're just letting the situation speak for itself," said Bega. Hayes' name does not appear in the police report.

The victim, Courtney Cunningham, 33, told police that two men confronted him near the driveway of his home and shot him, Sgt. John A. Pasquariello said Wednesday.

Cunningham, who was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and treated for a leg wound, was not immediately available to comment.

Hayes is up for another Emmy this year for his role as Jack, the flamboyant, Cher-loving friend of lead Will (Eric McCormack) on the NBC series. He also provided the voice of the power-mad kitty Mr. Tinkles in this year's Cats & Dogs.
