August 8 -- Diva-in-distress Mariah Carey has checked out of the hospital where she was recovering after suffering a nervous breakdown two weeks ago, her spokeswoman said today.

In a statement announcing the star's discharge from the hospital, Berger said, "Mariah is feeling better. She is resting under a doctor's care at an undisclosed location with her mother."

After a series of bizarre public appearances and confused messages on her official Web site, the 31-year-old singer was admitted to a New York-area hospital July 25 and placed under psychiatric care, her spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, said. Berger characterized the singer's collapse as "an emotional and physical breakdown."

Carey canceled all public appearances after her breakdown, including her headlining role at the Aug. 1 show celebrating the 20th anniversary of MTV and the junket for her upcoming movie, Glitter. The release date of the film, which features Carey in her first starring role, has since been pushed back from Aug. 31 to Sept. 21.

Her behavior over recent months is being attributed to her non-stop schedule. Besides filming Glitter, the multitasking celeb also wrote, recorded, and produced the soundtrack to the film, which will reportedly maintain its release date of Aug. 21, despite the delay in releasing the film itself. Carey also filmed the indie Wise Girls and reportedly got in a physical fight with co-star Mira Sorvino on the set.
