July 27 -- Guy Ritchie is spoiling his wife. The British director who directed his wife of seven months, Madonna, as a spoiled celebrity in the Web-only short Star for BMW films and as a road-raging criminal in her video for "What It Feels Like for a Girl" plans a remake of the Italian film Swept Away, in which Madonna will star as a filthy-rich socialite who goes on a yachting holiday and begins an unlikely romance with a communist sailor.

The original film, directed by Lina Wertmuller, was as much about the battle of the social classes as it was a romance.

Madonna, who's currently wowing them with her Drowned World tour in support of her Music album, has yet to make a real splash at the box office. Among her fizzles are The Next Best Thing, Who's That Girl?, Body of Evidence, and notorious stinker Shanghai Surprise, in which she starred with her then-husband, Sean Penn.

Swept Away is possibly scheduled for a fall shoot, Daily Variety reports.

Lopez Flirts With Fairy-tale RoleJennifer Lopez may slip her foot into The Chambermaid, a modern retelling of the Cinderella story directed by The Breakfast Club's John Hughes.

Lopez will play a young dreamer who takes a job as a chambermaid in a luxury hotel in an attempt to better her life. There she meets a princely British guest, and the two fall in love, which makes the man determined to find her when she abruptly quits the job. The project originally was set up with Hilary Swank to star and currently has a tentative start date of winter 2002.

The busy Lopez's next film could be either Gigli, opposite Ben Affleck, or the thrillers Taking Lives or Tick Tock.

The singer-actress is also developing an NBC variety special that will showcase her hit album J.Lo.Reuters/Variety contributed to this story.
